What was your favourite subject in school and why? |
Organizational Behavior and Communications – everything is connected, and we all live in different communities and organizations. Without communications these networks would break down. |
How did you get into your line of work? Can you talk us through a quick overview of your career path to date? |
I worked in the Media industry before landing in SaaS. After getting my MBA, I was looking for a role where I could incorporate my communications and business skills. I found project management to be a perfect fit for it. |
When do you use creative thinking and problem solving in your line of work? |
When there are issues or escalations with a project coming up with solutions or workarounds is key. Creative thinking and problem solving are key for that to happen. |
Any top tips for young people looking to get into your area of work? |
You can make anything a project and work it as such! Expand from there! Create a portfolio of projects that you have worked on. Documents wins and successes on each project (What impact did it have?). |
What B!G idea are you most proud of in your own life/career to date? |
Forming and working with global teams to deliver successful projects is what I enjoy most in my line of work. After all, it’s the people who make the difference! |
What professional failure have you experienced that has made you a more resilient person as a result? |
Changing companies and industries over the last 10 years has made me more flexible and resilient. It also helps me to continue and grow by being exposed to new environments and challenges. |
What is your go-to resource to help you with creative thinking and problem solving in work? – a website, tool; app or framework – whatever! |
I used different tools based on the situation. Often breaking down the issue/problem into smaller bitesize pieces is a great first step. You can rewrite those as smaller opportunities to solve them (instead of problems). Then come up with a plan. A SWOT analysis can often help as well to see the bigger picture. |
If you had the opportunity, what advice would you give your 16-year old self now? |
Believe in yourself. Look at everything you do as an experiment rather than a value of yourself. Failure is part of the journey and necessary to continue to learn and grow. |
