From personas and empathy maps to storyboards and journey maps, The B!G Idea programme is designed to be hands-on, varied, and deeply engaging.
From the very beginning, students are fully involved. They choose a topic they genuinely care about and create a “hero” — a person directly affected by the challenge they are exploring.
Each week, Ronan introduces a new creative tool and shows students how to use it in practice. These tools act as different lenses, helping students view their hero’s world in new ways. As a result, students build a deeper understanding of their hero’s life, dreams, emotions, challenges, and everyday experiences.
Understanding how and when to use each tool is a key part of The B!G Idea approach.
A persona captures the hero’s hopes, motivations, and goals on a single page.
An empathy map explores what the person sees, thinks, feels, hears, and says in relation to the challenge they face.
A journey map works like a comic strip, showing where and when problems occur during a typical day.
Finally, the storyboard brings everything together, combining insights from the empathy and journey maps to tell the full story.
All of these tools come to life through the teacher pack and student swag bags, which include LEGO, sketching paper, and creative materials that encourage hands-on exploration.
The programme is exciting, challenging, and innovative. In fact, it makes many people wish they could go back to school and learn all over again.
