What an incredible experience it was to delve into this year’s projects! The five categories of Mental Health, Climate Change, Diversity & Inclusion, Hidden Poverty and Displaced People sparked unique and innovative ideas from students of all backgrounds and abilities. The principal aim of The B!G Idea programme is to create an environment where every voice can be heard. Success comes in different forms for each individual, whether it be winning a competition or finding the courage to express their opinions. The programme equips students with invaluable skills such as research techniques and mindfulness practices like meditation, all which help to develop a more rounded, holistic mindset. Every aspect of The B!G Idea programme holds significant value and meaning for someone.
Unsurprisingly perhaps, Climate Change and Mental Health once again emerged as the most popular categories with our young people. The response to both of these categories was pretty off the charts with some mind blowing ideas making their way through the creative process.
We saw everything from apps for peer support to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, to providing financial advice and aid distribution for those in need. There were also some really innovative ideas like an online service where people can share their stories for inclusivity, well-being apps and websites building a sensory room for support groups, promoting diversity and inclusivity through an inclusive cafe/library, and creating websites and apps to educate and inform about climate change.
The creativity and determination of the next generation is inspiring and this was all helped by the unique support and guidance of their Mentors. All of these incredible projects were submitted by students across the country and are available to view on the Exhibition page of our website. And, just in case you missed it (or would like to see it again), the Showcase is also available to view on the website.
We’re sure that the future is in really good hands! Because one B!G idea could change our world!
