Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you will know by now that on Wednesday 16th November The B!G Idea fulfilled one of its long held ambitions which was to host a Mentor Meet Up. Until now the dreaded Covid played havoc with all of our good intentions but all that was forgotten on Wednesday as we gathered in The Dean on Harcourt Street. From 6.30pm, Mentors and Partners, old and new, started to file in to the beautiful Blue Room where we finally could put faces to names. Over a couple of drinks and some tasty nibbles we mingled amongst each other, getting to know each other a bit better.
Kindly sponsored by Design & Crafts Council Ireland as part of Design Week, we were treated to a presentation by our own Niamh Cooney, Head of Innovation and Sustainability, who brought us through the programme with videos from previous Mentors and students. She was then joined by a panel of Mentors from 2022 – Cormac Donnelly from Irish Life Health, Nhung Luu from Workday and Mick Torrans from Accenture who were all on hand to give their feedback on what a day in the life of a B!G Mentor looks like. Finishing off with a Q&A session, Mentors and prospective Mentors were able to have all their questions answered and came away with a better understanding of the programme overall. We couldn’t leave the event without a give-away and the wonderful folks at Bondi Group very generously offered us an Airtag which, once people figured out what it does, was richly appreciated! We managed to nab some of last year’s Mentors to do some quick VoxPops which we will be sharing with you all in the near future. It’s always so good to hear from our Mentors and to see what their experience was like. Wrapping up with another drink from the bar and some more tasty treats, we had more time to mingle and chat before heading for home.
It’s safe to say our first Mentor Meet Up was a massive success story and we will definitely be following it up with more in the future.
