If you haven’t been hiding under a rock for the past year then you will have heard us talking about the student projects and submissions and our B!G Showcase. The student project is one of the principal purposes of The B!G Idea programme but not the sole one.
For their project, students need to submit three submissions, all of which weigh a certain percentage towards the overall grade. The first part of this process is an A3 poster which illustrates a step by step guide of the learning journey and the process they followed. The students will share what they have discovered in their research and how this affected their thinking. They will use photos, visuals, sketches, models and text to share their creative journey.
The second step is another A3 poster which indicates their B!G proposal as well as the ‘hero’ of their project. In each project, the students need to choose one topic and the person identified in the topic of choice is the hero. The poster will indicate the impact the students’ proposal could have on their hero. The students can use a range of images to bring the poster to life and to illustrate their plan.
The third and final step is a video. This will be the students introducing themselves and their team and they will talk about their project, their hero and their proposal. They will discuss what they liked about The B!G Idea programme and how it could have benefitted their hero. The students are free to choose their own format and style and to make it as unique and creative as possible.
The incredible thing about the projects and the teamwork is how the students bounce their ideas off each other and come to one overall conclusion. The topics chosen are all topics of concern in everyday life and the students with their youth, their creativity and their vision are able to create unique solutions for them. These issues are currently being addressed in the community by individuals, companies and the public sector but students who are learning and developing through The B!G Idea can see things from a different perspective. Students are young and hungry, enthusiastic, creative and informed and, combined, all these attributes lead to all kinds of new and innovative solutions.
At the end of the programme, the Mentors are assigned three projects each and, working from a unique grading system, they are guided through the marking process which allows them to all judge equally. All of the projects are then displayed on the Exhibition page of our website which could arguably be known as the most creative page on the internet.
2000 students need your guidance. Be a B!G Mentor in 2022.
