We’ve always said we don’t do things by halves — and this week we proved it. The B!G Idea won two major titles at the Carlow Web Awards: the People’s Choice Award and the Overall Award.
Because The B!G Idea dream began in Carlow, this recognition feels especially meaningful. Winning at home makes it all the more special.
The Carlow Web Awards are a new initiative organised by Carlow County Council and the Local Enterprise Office in association with the Business Post, Content Plan and Institute of Technology Carlow.
The awards celebrate Carlow-based SMEs that have invested in digital platforms and web marketing as part of their growth strategy. In particular, they highlight innovation, strong online presence and effective digital storytelling.
After receiving more than 50 entries, judges shortlisted 25 finalists. These companies competed across seven categories, including:
The judging panel was chaired by Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development and Enterprise, alongside Gemma Purcell (Institute of Technology Carlow) and Eileen McCabe, co-founder of Content Plan.
Websites were evaluated based on design, ease of use, copywriting, interactivity, technology, impact, innovation and content.
These two awards come shortly after another major milestone — winning Best Start-Up at the Enterprise Awards in Ballykealy House, Carlow.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Phelan acknowledged the achievements of local businesses supported by the Local Enterprise Office. He praised companies that have grown through innovation, digital development, new product creation and expansion into export markets.
Importantly, the Carlow Web Awards recognise more than just beautiful websites. They celebrate enterprise innovation and the development of meaningful digital experiences.
As Kieran Comerford noted, these awards are timely in recognising the investment businesses have made in building strong online platforms.
While awards are not the reason we do what we do, they do matter. They represent belief. They show that others recognise the impact of our work.
The B!G Idea exists to help young people develop creative thinking skills to tackle both local and global challenges. Therefore, being recognised for our digital presence — the platform that supports this mission — feels particularly significant.
This has already been an exciting and productive year. Adding two Carlow Web Awards to the mix is truly the icing on the cake.
We were also honoured to be featured in the Sunday Business Post (13 March edition), which further highlighted the importance of digital innovation and enterprise growth in Ireland.
