It’s that time of year again! The IDI Awards are fast approaching — often described as the Oscars of Irish design.
Last year, we were completely blown away to win not only the Design Education and Research Award, but also the overall Grand Prix Award. Even more remarkably, it was the first time in the awards’ 50-year history that an educational programme claimed the Grand Prix. As a result, the achievement felt even more significant for creative education in Ireland.
Each year, the IDI Awards showcase the very best creative talent in the country. Therefore, even securing a nomination is an outstanding accomplishment. With a panel of national and international judges reviewing submissions across multiple categories, the competition is always fierce. This year was no exception.
And now, after careful consideration, the votes are in. We’re absolutely delighted to share that The B!G Idea has once again been nominated for the Design Education and Research Award.
Wahoo!
Importantly, this category aligns perfectly with our mission. The Design Education and Research Award recognises innovative work by IDI Design Education members. In particular, it challenges students to consider the evolving role of design in a rapidly changing world — and the responsibilities that come with it.
Moreover, judges look for entries that:
In other words, this category reflects everything The B!G Idea stands for. Not only do we connect industry and education, but we also empower students to see design as a tool for positive change.
Even more excitingly, the awards are returning to an in-person celebration this year after a two-year hiatus. The ceremony will take place on November 17th at The Marker Hotel in Dublin. So, naturally, we’re preparing for a very special evening. Move over Saoirse Ronan and Colin Farrell — we’ve got our own red carpet moment to attend!
Meanwhile, our work continues across Ireland. In 2023, 4,000 students will take part in The B!G Idea creative thinking programme. However, they cannot do it alone. They need mentors, supporters and believers who are willing to share their experience and guidance. So, if you’d like to be part of this journey, sign up as a 2023 Mentor today. Together, we can continue empowering the next generation of creative problem-solvers.
