At The B!G Idea, our mission is clear: to connect industry with education in meaningful ways that inspire and empower the next generation of creative thinkers and innovators. Recently, this vision came to life in a fantastic way when MSD’s Carlow facility opened its doors to ‘Team Sunny Sonics’ from St. Leo’s College, Carlow. Winners of The B!G Idea’s Climate Change Award 2024 and proudly sponsored by MSD, this talented group of students wowed judges with their innovative solar-powered mobile phone design, a testament to eco-friendly and sustainable problem-solving.
For the students, the visit was more than just a tour, it was a chance to experience the incredible range of opportunities within STEM careers firsthand. Hosted by a warm and welcoming MSD Carlow team, the day was filled with engaging, interactive activities that left a lasting impression.
The students were invited to participate in hands-on STEM activities, where they explored the latest technologies and innovations shaping the pharmaceutical industry. A highlight of the visit was their time in the Quality Operations (QO) lab, where they gained insight into the critical processes that underpin MSD’s operations. Members of the MSD team shared inspiring career stories, offering invaluable guidance and encouragement to these young visionaries.
For the students, the outing was a unique opportunity to see the career paths that exist in STEM fields and to understand the impact they could make in the world. For the MSD team, the visit was equally rewarding, it was a chance to showcase their state-of-the-art facility and engage with the bright minds that represent the future of innovation.
“We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to welcome these students to MSD,” said a spokesperson for the Carlow team. “Supporting The B!G Idea aligns perfectly with our commitment to empowering the next generation. Seeing the enthusiasm and creativity of Team Sunny Sonics was truly inspiring.”
MSD has been a proud supporter of The B!G Idea since 2021. By sponsoring initiatives like the Climate Change Award, MSD helps foster a culture of innovation and creativity among young people, equipping them with the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
As the day came to a close, it was clear that this collaboration had been a resounding success. The students left with new knowledge, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of the possibilities within STEM. The MSD team, in turn, felt a renewed sense of purpose and pride in their work and the impact they can have on future generations.
The visit by Team Sunny Sonics is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when education and industry come together. By providing students with opportunities to engage directly with professionals and cutting-edge technologies, we’re not only preparing them for successful careers but also nurturing the creative problem-solvers our world needs.
At The B!G Idea, we look forward to many more partnerships like this, continuing to connect young minds with industry leaders and paving the way for a brighter, more innovative future. A heartfelt thank you to MSD Carlow for their ongoing support and for making this day so memorable for everyone involved.
