“One B!G idea can change the world.”

Celebrating Student Creativity and Big Ideas 2023

Exploring this year’s projects has been an incredible experience. Students’ creative projects 2023 tackled five powerful themes: Mental Health, Climate Change, Diversity & Inclusion, Hidden Poverty, and Displaced People. Across these categories, young people from all backgrounds and abilities shared bold, thoughtful, and innovative ideas.

At the heart of The B!G Idea programme is one clear goal: to create a space where every student’s voice can be heard.

Importantly, success looks different for everyone. For some students, it means winning a competition. For others, it means finding the confidence to speak up, share an opinion, or try a new way of thinking. Along the way, students develop valuable skills such as research techniques and mindfulness practices, including meditation. Together, these tools help build a more rounded and holistic mindset.

Every part of The B!G Idea journey holds meaning and value for someone.

The Most Popular Themes

Once again, Climate Change and Mental Health emerged as the most popular categories among young people.

The response to both themes was exceptional. Students brought forward a wide range of ideas in their B!G projects, moving confidently through the creative process and demonstrating real depth of thought.

From Ideas to Impact

Projects ranged from peer-support apps and wellbeing platforms to solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Students also explored ways to provide financial guidance and support distribution for those experiencing hardship.

Other standout ideas included:

  • online platforms for sharing personal stories to promote inclusion
  • sensory rooms and digital tools to support wellbeing groups
  • inclusive café and library concepts that celebrate diversity
  • educational websites and apps focused on climate awareness

Each idea reflected empathy, creativity, and a genuine desire to create positive change.

Supported by Mentors, Shared With the World

The creativity and determination shown by students were further strengthened by the guidance and encouragement of their industry mentors.

All projects were submitted by students from across Ireland and are now available to explore on our website’s Exhibition page. In addition, the Showcase event 2023 is also available to watch online for anyone who missed it — or who would like to experience it again.

Looking Ahead

These students’ creative thinking projects prove one thing: the future is in very good hands. Because sometimes, one B!G idea really can change the world.
