“If I didn’t do The B!G Idea I’d still be on my own and not really talking to people. But now that I am I have a lot more friends and I’m enjoying it here.”

Latoya, Student, Kilkenny Youthreach

We want every young people in Ireland to access game-changing skills, so they can tackle the challenges in their own lives, their future workplaces and their communities.

“In school, I often felt out of place. I learned differently and struggled with exams, but discovering a specific set of skills transformed everything, exceeding all expectations. Our education system doesn’t work for every young person—it can even add to their challenges. That’s why we created The B!G Idea: to ensure no young person feels left behind. Every student has the potential to thrive when given the right tools. We empower them to unlock their skills, tackle challenges, and reimagine the world we’ve handed them.”

Kim Mackenzie-Doyle, CEO, The B!G Idea

Why it's so needed

68%

of young people feel that they have experienced depression or anxiety and that they are stressed about their future.

100%

experience a decrease in levels of life satisfaction and optimism from 1st year to 6th year.

84%

of students from deprived areas don’t believe they have the skills to succeed in a professional career.

“It’s a great programme, especially for people who might be lacking in confidence. It teaches us that we need to be vocal about our opinions and that our words and ideas can change the world!”

Roise Ni Dhochartaigh, St Josephs Grammar

“The B!G Idea programme for me, comparing it through the years with different project-based learning, has been one of the more exceptional ones. This vehicle of The B!G Idea has been the perfect vehicle. I think it’s something that from the ground up needs to go to local politicians, it has to be up there. It’s very important”

Michael Bracken, Tullamore CTC Facilitator.
