The B!G Idea

The B!G Idea is landing in January 2021 with Transition Year students in Carlow, Clare, Limerick. Developed by internationally award-winning creative experts, it’s a 15-week Transition Year programme aiming to equip the next generation with the creative mindset to tackle the biggest problems society faces. If you’re a teacher or a TY  Co-ordinator you have to sign your school up to our waiting list for 2022. Not a teacher or TY Co-ordinator? Share our website with your school and ask them to sign up. You might as well, it’s FREE

You must be a Transition Year student in one of our participating schools to take part in THE B!G iDEA.

The project that you enter into The B!G Idea virtual Exhibition and Awards Show must be made during The B!G Idea programme, and it must be original; after all, creativity is all about using your imagination and having original ideas to create something new! This doesn’t mean that you cannot take inspiration from other people who are working on a similar challenge, in fact, we encourage you to do so. What it does mean is that you cannot plagiarise. Plagiarism is the representation of another person’s work as your own. Whether done intentionally or unintentionally, if plagiarism is detected, our judges have the right to exclude your work from the exhibition.

You only need one B!G idea to change the world! That’s why you can only enter one project per team into the Exhibition and Awards Show, and you can only be a member of one team.

Collaboration can help us problem solve, help us work more efficiently and allow us to share skills, ideas and knowledge. The project you enter must be a team collaboration. We do not accept individual projects. Each member should actively collaborate with their team on the development of their project and take ownership of a particular project area.

For effective collaboration, teams must comprise three to four members. Only in unforeseen circumstances can teams decrease in size. They can not increase to more than four members.

One team member is responsible for uploading the team’s project on our website. We may share the content that you upload on our social media or publish it on our website for marketing purposes.

The B!G Idea won’t have any rights to any of your original ideas, you own them. Should you want to explore your project further after the exhibition, you are free to do so. All we ask is that you send us some photos of your progress so we can show it off to the world! For further information, please see our IP Policy here. If your B!G idea has commercial potential we recommend considering patent protection.

The best of the best work with us as judges. Their decision regarding winners at our exhibition is final. They also have the right to exclude any projects if teams have not adhered to the rules. If you are a member of a team who wins the best B!G idea in your category, you will be presented with a medal and your team will be presented with The B!G Idea trophy. Everyone who completes The B!G Idea programme will be presented with a certificate and your school will be certified a B!G Idea Creative School for 2021!
